With our current laws, this poor resident will be facing life in prison for defending himself....

Poor guy should rather have the burglar stabbed him with a knife and had his 14 year old daughter raped... which would have made him a statistic and not a prisoner.

Now this resident family will starve because he stood up for himself, a total no-no in this country. He should rather have left this country years ago, like the rest us...

Criminal's have more rights here in SA that anyother PPL!

Anyways, Good for him! More action like this will make crimials think twice, just so sad that gun owners is a dying breed.

We live in a country where they investigate shootings. That's a good thing.

And
He should rather have left the country years ago, like the rest of us
You're still here.

oh please. The article just says that a murder charge will be brought against the man. Surely that is normal procedure when you kill somebody? If all happened as he told, then we will be acquitted of all charges.

I mean, I'd have pulled the trigger too, but I would also not have been surprised if the matter was investigated afterwards.

I want to start selling my own T shirts with the following print:

ONE SPEEDCAMERA, ONE BULLET

I reckon I'm going to make a killling....

When you kill someone in self defense a case of murder/manslaughter/whatever is opened against you. How many times have we been through this already?

Tell you what of all the cases that's been posted here (off the top of my head I can remember four or five) how many of the people who defended themselves were found guilty? Can you name one?

If so please link.

The police are investigating. In order to do so, they have to bring a charge of murder. Stupid bloody system.

I'd say he was justified in that he clearly showed that he wasn't trying to kill the guy straight off. It was a defensive shooting. At the age of 55 he would have been seriously hurt trying to tussle. No good taking chances with a teenage girl in the house.

Wish the press followed up on these cases.

Nobody is saying they shouldn't investigate. I can't think of a country that doesn't. What irks me is that they need to charge someone for attempted murder when the initial investigation (and reports) indicate a case of self-defence.

Why put the victim of crime through all of this grief. In fact leaving him unarmed and mates of the burglar can come and get revenge without fear of being shot.

I say do a fast-track initial investigation. Charge/not charge based on what is found, then do further enquiries depending on the circumstances. Don't policeman have brains nowadays
