I'm attending an iBurst presentation this evening regarding the provision of voice and data services to a complex a friend of mine lives in. I've heard good but (mostly) bad things about iBurst and my own experience hasn't been anything to write home about.

What are your opinions and any suggestions regarding questions relating to this evening's presentation? And what other options are available that you would recommend?

Apparently Telkom do not have an exchange close enough for them to service the complex, which I believe to be BS but I'll have to do more digging to get to the truth about that matter.

Your help would be appreciated...

Perhaps someone can provide some input regarding my issues with iBurst by confirming them and expanding a little for me, or correcting me:

iBurst use outdated technology which is limited in its capabilities.
iBurst have invested very little in expanding this technology.
iBurst will therefore not be able to extend savings to consumers brought about by general technological advances in telecoms SA.
iBurst will not see any advantage from LLU when it happens.
iBurst are generally more expensive than other providers.
iBurst have been known to cause controversy regarding migrating users without their permission.
iBurst have been slowly selling off their revenue streams.
Resellers are even avoiding selling iBurst products in favour of other more flexible, cheaper and advances products.

Any comments?

Well done to your friend's body corporate for getting them to actually come out. They lost interest in my complex, and I didn't bother chasing them.

I'm interested in the presentation; I don't think this is a "everyone buys a modem and an antenna" service, this will probably be a "iBurst installs a carrier grade STM-1, POTS switch (or maybe not:)), and small DSLAM" service.

iBurst use outdated technology which is limited in its capabilities. I don't think this is their normal consumer grade tech.
iBurst have invested very little in expanding this technology. See above.
iBurst will therefore not be able to extend savings to consumers brought about by general technological advances in telecoms SA. In their little niche, it's all about bulk discounts, imo, that's where they save their money.
iBurst will not see any advantage from LLU when it happens. Obviously not, but they aren't currently affected by Telkom's high IPC and ADSL pricing either.
iBurst are generally more expensive than other providers. They need their ass kicked for that.
iBurst have been known to cause controversy regarding migrating users without their permission. More ass kicking needed. From what I've heard, their technology works but their admin and billing is beyond terrible.
iBurst have been slowly selling off their revenue streams. Ja, well, that's business. If it helps them focus on providing an alternative to Telkom's local loop, fine.
Resellers are even avoiding selling iBurst products in favour of other more flexible, cheaper and advances products. Ass kicking with a heavy boot. Haven't they realised yet, that great technology and ideas are useless if they're not competitive in the market.

Any comments?
