ok just a quick question here.

just went through the price changes from telcom and i see they are charging a different line rental for residential and business lines. now wasnt there some guy that took them to court because they charged different amounts for residential and business adsl. and didnt he win?

now to my mind i see no difference between the wire they use for residential and business lines so why the difference.

could one of the legal boys maybe enlighten me as to wether this is legal or not.

Suppose it is the same as the rates that get charged to business and households, or the rental for business space as opposed to residential space.

You are using the "resource" to make money so you pay more for the use of it. I am also not sure whether the service, ie turnaround and response times for faults, perhaps differs between the two?

Business lines have additional secondary services available which are unavailable to residential customers. Also, business line customers receive priority repair/response times.

If I remember correctly, one of the secondary services you can only have with business lines is call/line hunting. Whichever secondary services they are, I doubt there is any good reason why one cannot have them on residential lines. Just a profit driven model.

Yep, priority is probably 1-2 business days on business lines and most likely 5 - 7 business days to indefinite on residential lines. Of course, all lines should be repaired within 1 - 2 business days at the most, but this is Telkom we are talking about.
