Am busy going through the process of having my ADSL line activated - what is Telkom's big issue with residential vs business customers?

More money for them. If you are business, you pay more, private you pay less. They love stifling the growth of SA business and the economy...

While the normal phone line charges might vary the adsl price is identical for business or residential as is the service.

Apparently the reported business faults are supposed to receive priority over residential ones, or so I was told. If that's the case then the poor residential guys must wait forever for repairs as Telkom have hardly been speedy in fixing my business line faults.

Are there seriously price differences in the lines for residential and business lines? Or are the price differences associated to bandwith differentials.

Is the bandwith price for ADSL over and above the 132.75 (or 99.92)?

yup add the ADSL line rental to your phone line rental and you can't apply for only an ADSL line. You have to take both. Then add to that the ISP charge.

Example for home use: R 99.92 + R 362.00 + R 245.00 = R 706.92 for a 512 ADSL line and 3 GB ISP account.

Worse than that - you have to pay for the adsl connection and get an adsl account with an ISP. :o

I seem to remember hearing somewhere that businesses used to get charged more but telkom was forced to charge them the same as residential customers...seeing as its exactly the same service...
then again I could just be dellusional *pushes the 'crack' away and vows to stop for the hundredth time*

My understanding is that the ADSL line is the same cost but normal lines are more expensive. In addition to this, Closer packages are not available to business customers.

You're correct ... Telkom was made to charge the same for the ADSL portion for business and residential. Hence the adjustments to make them the same at the beginning of August.
