Good day Folks,

I am wanting to resign from my job, But i'm only required to give a 2 week notice period (as per my contract).

Can those two weeks be over a holiday? I'm assuming not.

I am wanting to start my new job from the second week of January. I dont want to hand in my notice just before the December break, as then I wont get paid for the last ~2 weeks of December :/

Is there any way to do this without taking a hit?

I'm just thinking from the employers side, they also dont want to pay for something for nothing, as I'l be leaving.

Any advise would be awesome :)

I'm guessing it also depends on the employer and your relationship with them. Typically, as far as I know, the majority of companies won't allow you to take leave during your notice period, but if you have a good relationship with them, and you're not leaving on bad terms, and it being December/January holidays, they might be forthcoming and allow you to do this anyway.

Also, as far as I know, most places will pay out any unused leave. So you can plan your notice to be 2 weeks before any vacation time you would otherwise take, and simply have the leave paid out.
