Hey guys,

I have a Monk and started Inferno a few days ago. I was struggling so bad at the beginning that I started farming for gold so I can go and buy decent items in the AH. I started Inferno with 350 buffed resistances and 30k life and 16k dps. Still I was struggling. My life would drop within miliseconds against elites. Normal mobs I had no problems. But as soon as I stumbled uppon an elite mob with fire or poison damage... oh lord.

Then I went to the AH and bought items... Resistances went up to 1200 buffed, DPS dropped to 11k and life dropped to 20k. What a difference that made! If anyone is struggling then go for resistances. Monk is easier to raise them as you can stack up one resistance and then use "One with Everything" and match all your resistances.

Im a barb mucking about mostly :D sitting with 19k dps, 7.5k armor and about 30k hp (my enchantress has more hp than me!!) and between 650 and 730 resistance, and I dont even blink at arcane sentries anymore :D

as I said, messing about a lot, Ive one-shotted all the bosses in act1 inferno, no particular rush to get moving into act2. will probably today though.

on an aside, anyone got a cheap 800dps+ str based weapon with LOH they wanna get rid of?

100% correct. Resists is the name of the game in D3 and that is very sad.

Challenge accepted! :D I'll beat the game with 500 RA (just give me some time :p)

And you needed resists in D2 as well so....? Next up, you need armour to beat the game  The horror!

Resist is not the only stat you need to worry about, crit , crit dmg , life on hit(very expensive) are also extremely important stats.

I have cleared inferno act4 and At first i also thought resist was the only thing to stack so i went balls to the walls and ended up with 1.2k resist all buffed but my hp was 35k and dps 12k, this was ok for act 1 & 2 but i could not do act 3, I just could not put out more damage than i was taking.

so i evolved to a resist/regen build putting my life per second up to 2.4k, this definately helped me alot and i managed to clear the start of act 3 buy using clever tactics and alot of kiting but i still had to skip a elite pack or two (shielded minions, desecrator, molten).

After that i noticed my sustainability was good but i was was taking ages to kill elites and it was no fun playing that way so i started stacking crit and crit dmg, this has been my saving grace, i now have 50% crit and 250% crit dmg , my dps is 25k,resist all, 850-900 buffed, armour 8k, hp 55k and i can kill anything and everything, some packs are tough but wilth a little skill they go down.

This is the build i use for act 3/act 4

a close friend also plays a monk and he also started replacing resist with crit and it has helped him alot , basicly any socket that you can have crit or crit dmg u must go for an item with it, If you can get resist on it too then great, adding life on hit is also great but you really going to pay through your arse for that.

@Archer When it becomes your no1 stats is retarded

@diesel For the ones who actually started the play the game when it was released (i.e. pre 1.0.3) and geared accordingly there was just 1 way to play and that is stacking RA. My barb have 1.2k RA, 1.3k Physical, 56k HP, 14k dps and that had been so since before 1.0.3 and finishing inferno that way and it was still hard back then (piss easy now). I had 0 Life on hit and I still think it’s an highly overrated stat for barbs since it helped you 0.01 % vs the way elites was hitting pre-patch and still isn’t that great vs most elite packs. Awesome for boss fights thou. Gold can be spent far better. But for a Monk LoH is the absolute way to go imo. And you don't replace RA with Crit, you just get crit with your 850+ RA so you can use the only build that really works for a monk, except full out tank, Sweeping Wing + Cyclone and that requires Crit.

Sure after the 1.0.3 patch one can go a bit more dps with a barb, but you still need 850+ RA imo for barb/monk, so it becomes the 1st thing you look at, then crit etc. Sure you kill things faster but survivability sux and it becomes a situation of kill crap in 15 sec or die. That is not fun either and that’s not a Barbarian imo. Thou should name it something else.
And the main thing about that is you need a crapload of gold as the dps way of playing is far more expensive.

End of the story is, it’s about survivability and not about killing mobs atm and its down to buying gear so you can farm for the same gear that you just bought, which is not going to drop for you anyway....
