Cape Town - A restaurant manager appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for perjury after he laid a fake charge about a robbery at his Observatory workplace.

The 32-year-old suspect was arrested following an "intense investigation" into a business robbery he had reported on Tuesday, police spokesperson captain FC Van Wyk said.

The man claimed he had opened the restaurant around 06:00 and was confronted by two men and a woman, who threatened him with a knife. They apparently demanded he hand over cash and valuables.
"When interrogated... the complainant admitted he falsely opened a case to claim money from the insurance. The preliminary investigation also revealed the complainant... staged the crime scene."

"After an intense probe... detectives obtained surveillance footage which revealed the complainant was lying and the reported business robbery incident never took place."

Investigations revealed the man entered the premises about 03:00; spent 15 to 20 minutes inside the business and locked up, Van Wyk said.
Mother of god, this guy should get some sort of award for stupidity!

Mother of god, this guy should get some sort of award for stupidity!

I feel sorry for the guy.

What with the current economic climate the "rent-a-thief-for-an-insurance-scam" crowd are so busy that it takes months to get a booking :D

Throw the book at him.
This also affects every one of us with insurance.
And wastes SAPS's time when they could hopefully be catching real criminals.

Owns a restaurant but cant even fake it properly.
