How does one go about in getting this as the person is threatening to do bodily harm or kill you?

The person is on some serious meds and has firearms aswell.

We went to the cops and gave them an affidavit but what else can one do?

Will they take away his firearms once the court eventually gives us a restraining order or what?

This is quite serious as my wife has already cracked under the stress and has been taken in to a psychiatric hospital due to the stress and fear.

Please if someone knows or has had a similar issue please give me advice as it's not a good situation.

Thanks

You need to obtain a protection order. This can be done either in terms of the Domestic Violence Act or in terms of the Protection from Harassment Act, depending on your type of relationship with the person that you are seeking an order against.

An interim protection order will be granted provided that there is prima facie evidence of harassment and the order will then be made final once it is brought before a magistrate and made an order of court.

In line with the order, a court is entitled to revoke an existing firearms license.

Sorry to hear about this awful situation.

There are specialists who know how the process works. They are called lawyers. Consult one. You will need to pay, because they don't work for free and need to live.

Depends, either the long legal way, or the quick "call the guys" method. Personally I've lost trust in the cops so I'd take the second option. As awful and dangerous as these situations are the cops usually take too long or don't help at all
