Restricted/Unresricted Voda 3G

You have to apply for an unrestricted APN if you wish to host services through your 3G account - we host webcameras on linksys 3G routers for a client of ours. Believe me I went through a lot of pain to get it working.

If your account is restricted your wan ip will be something like
10.xx.xx.xx and your APN is 'internet'
unrestricted your APN has to be 'unrectricted' and will give you ip address of
41.xx.xx.xx

I have send an application form to Will at Miro in Pretoria - if you need to unrestrict your account, contact him and ask him to mail you the form.

Activation is quick - it happens within an hour.

Khodi, when last did you test if your unrestricted apn is up? I was under the impression it was done. Will you check for me?

You can download the form directly from Vodacom's site. I've posted the link on the forum.

You then fill in the form and fax/mail it back. It will then be checked and if approved, the activation will be submitted. Can take a while to activate.

Only Vodacom can/should approve the activation. Often it will be me. External companies cannot do it.

The reason I'm so pedantic about this apn is simple. You only need it in special cases (like hosting) and then only if you understand the security risks will we activate it.
