Guys is there a way of limiting data usage to ONLY whatsapp.
Right now I have mobile data turned off sync turned off cos I use my tablet for emails- don't really needs it ony my phone every day.

If you have root there is Droidwall and Avast firewalls that can block internet access per app.

Yip, I use Avast Firewall which is awesome. I had no idea some applications were munching away at my data freely...

You can also use the standard data usage app to restrict data usage over mobile data. go to Menu->Settings->Data Usage - scroll down, until you see which apps are using you data, click on the app, scroll down, and tick the box to Restrict background data

If you go under settings>data usage and click on any of the listed apps at the bottom of that page and scroll to the bottom it should offer an option to "restrict background data - disable background data on mobile data network only. Wi-Fi will be used if available".

I've ticked that on all the apps I want to limit. Not as efficient as just choosing one to give access to but my phone is not rooted. Onova count also offers a similar option but not sure if it works on non-rooted devices.

EDIT: Beaten to it. I really need to learn to type less and faster :)

Data Management

3G watchdog Data Alert
My Data Manager App breakdown and alert
Onavo Data Plan management + app control light firewall
Droidwall Firewall (Needs Root)

^^^Copied and pasted from Android Useful Apps Thread

I've have used all of these at some point. Currently its just Droidwall and My Data Manager

Are you rooted ? Droidwall would be the best as it can completely control all your application's data usage. Onovo is another option(no need for root) for restricting data usage, but it is not as exact as Droidwall and cannot block certain apps(the system apps).

3G watchdog and My Data Manager will be able to help you monitor your usage.

EDIT: I was so lazy to organise this that 4 posts beat me. :o

Did not know this - thank you for the tip :)

Ok, really getting pissed off about being slower and saying too much now! Ecco getting all the glory! ha ha :D No wonder people on forums have this habit of not giving detailed answers but rather keep it to as few words as possible.
