From firing squad:

"But now comes the difficult part, availability. Here things are a little more uncertain. Intel expects the first boxed Core 2 Extreme CPUs and systems to be available on July 27th, approximately two weeks from today. Meanwhile, the first Core 2 Duo parts and systems should show up 30 days after that. This means that unless you’re willing to fork over $1,000 for a new Core 2 Extreme processor, you may be waiting until late August before you can get your hands on a Core 2 Duo processor or system. Considering how similar the Core 2 Duo is to the Core 2 Extreme, spending the extra $400+ is hard for us to justify. Is an unlocked multiplier and 2.93GHz clock speed really enough to justify the extra money? For some enthusiasts, yes, but for most users, the lower-priced Core 2 Duo chips are the more feasible purchase."

Anybody in SA got prices?

Thank you very much for all the info and as to one question about why online. For me it's simple i can not go into a store in my area and get the same prices as i can from 90% of online retailers.
Jhb South seems to also lack general service and quality standards.
eg. i have in the past asked 8+ places for quotes on the same machine. I got 3 back one of which was incomplete.
When handling pc purchases for my company I have on numerous occassions received machines with incorrect parts in them i.e. gigabyte mobo's instead of the intels i requested. This also happens regularly with mem mods. Don't know if its just because we buy large volumes and people take chances or if it's honest mistakes but i think its the prior.

Any way thanks again all!

Hi Jeeva,

Never say never! I know you never said never ... but you implied it! Some of the local e-tailers are starting to stock a few fast moving items and "guaranteed" sellers! Sometimes of course it's also items they ordered but never sold!

Oversees the big guys seldom sell items they don't stock, why would you order something that's out of stock online if the next online shop has it IN stock?

The point is, I believe that if a stores online sales pick up enough they WILL carry stock, and it IS happening and it WILL continue to happen (Even if in limited amounts)!

Regards
