Hi Guy,

Are there companies out there that can re thread a spark plug Cylinder.

MY 3rd spark plug does not go in all the way and you can see the threading is not 100 percent in the cylinder

Do you get Helicoil's here?

There you go then.

Re-tapping the thread might be an option depending on how badly it's damaged. If not...
Being the spark plug thread, it's a little bit more involved, as the very last thing you want is shavings of any kind ending up in your cylinder.. bye bye engine, hello very expensive repair bill..

Best left to professionals, this specific job.. if it were anywhere else, I would go for it myself, no problem..

I would think retapping or at least trying to clean the thread up is a first option, from what I remember helicoil's change the diameter of the thread which is probably not an option for spark plugs.

Turn the engine upside down should solve it

They are fine for spark plugs, have used them in the past for this, whilst the cylinder head was being overhauled..

The helicoil will return to whichever thread you need, you just need to drill out and tap a new, larger hole and thread for the helicoil to screw into.. once in though, you would be back to the same sized hole and thread as before..

Do you know where they are located, they have items on their catalogue I would not mind purchasing but the delivery fee would not make it feasible.
Nevermind, their facebook page states they are in Pretoria.

Aah, so you drill the original hole larger and thread for a helicoil that will give you the same size hole/thread as the original spark plug, interesting.

Yep.. useful little things.. not suitable for every application though..

I remember looking at them along with threaded inserts years ago to sort a dodgy thread on our '66 VW Bus oil sump drain plate but we just cleaned up the thread and it was reasonably OK after that.
