She’s very picky, woolies or nothing kinda person.

She already told me she doesn’t want any retirement farewell or party but I’m still going to plan something small for us as an office.

I’ve been fishing for ideas from her asking about her hobbies but due to a recent cataract surgery her eyes are not as good so she does not do scraping anymore.

Thanks in advance

Posted from my ipad, I'm not sure whether that's why. On andiod, I see it's not legible.

If the person drinks easy... Super nice bottle/case of wine or whisky/brandy

What?

A day at the spa to get rid of all the stress you caused her?

2 great sharp classy chef knives one big one paring knife - then get a great message of love inscribed into the big one. She will use both daily and read your message constantly and will probably be cooking and prepping food more now that she is retired. If she doesn't have a watch a classy proper watch is always a lovely idea. But don't cheap out. Another idea is hire a great video editor to come down some stand up interviews at the office. Why we will miss Mariekie what she brought to the company and my favourite Mariekie story. Then edit a beautiful 5min clip and upload to YouTube company page and socials and give as a present on a thumb drive. That's nice....

just give her a high five...

no one cares about an office or work, we want it done, it's like releasing a slave from a mine after 40 years... they don't care about the gift basket you bought them.

on a subtle note, whatever you give them will never be good enough. If she worked there for 40 years and you all chipped in and bought her a R2,000 shopping mall voucher then she will say, "R2,000 for 40 years is that what I'm worth..."

but maybe just maybe she's a sweet old blind lady now from spending 8 hours a day in front of the PC screen at work and holds no grudges, then you could ALL pitch in and buy her a shopping mall voucher <-- this makes her choose what she wants to buy.

What was that show where one lady thought she was signing a farewell card for someone retiring and in it she wrote: "At least no one can now steal my food from the fridge. PS. You deserve it" and it turned out to be a get better soon card for the same lady as she was run over by a car

If we're gonna talk about retirement gift ideas and not the text itself I'd go for a high-quality wine with a handwritten note. Wines feel personal and stylish, plus she can enjoy it on her own terms. A great timeless choice!

Four years later the tannie from the OP is long pushing daisies
