Many companies are seemingly doing this and we're not exempt. Last week was the first consultation and notice of possible retrenchment so it's taking course. I'm not familiar with this and info on the web seems contradictory. With all the people here I am sure you can provide some assistance!

Can you help me undertsand:
  1. How is the retrenchment package calculated?
    1. Some sites say for every year worked, its 1 weeks wages
    2. Another says if you've worked 4+ years, its 2 weeks per year (for 4 years), then 1 week per year thereafter.
  2. Do you work through a retrenchment package?
    1. i.e. your last month would be your last salary month, then you leave and get retrenchment thereafter
  3. Does a notice period work during this phase
Very interesting and uncertain times and any help is appreciated.

"Some sites say for every year worked, its 1 weeks wages" yes this is the legal minimum. Companies can however give more if they want to and can afford it, at their discretion.

"another says if you've worked 4+ years, its 2 weeks per year (for 4 years), then 1 week per year thereafter." No, not to my knowledge - see answer above

As part of the process they will identify your last day at work - you will then get paid for that, plus the retrenchment package, plus paid for leave due.

Good luck with the process, it sucks
