Hey

A Friend dropped an unopened beer on my laptop and my laptop shut down after that. It wont go into windows so i ran a pre boot assessment test and everything passed except the hard drive. Im planning to buy myself a new laptop and get a new hard drive for my current laptop at a later stage.

So is there a way to retrieve data from the failed HD, and if so how much would it cost?

You try plugging it into a normal computer as yet?
(see if it is the drive or something else that is damaged).

I just had a 250gb drive smash after a boerbull chased a cat over the kitchen table and the laptop hit the ground causing massive physical failure in the drive. I used SouthBit in Cape Town cost me R3600 and the recovered everything.

i took my laptop to our local pc shop and the owner did some test and said is was in fact my HD that is fcked.

@ crimesacom thanx thats not too heavy will be contacting SouthBit

Most important point was NOT covered! How is the beer? I hope the bottle didn't break .......... IMHO the laptop should be able to stand that type of shock unless it was working ....... As said before maybe just a loose wire!?!

Agree.

Also try what AstroTurf suggests... unplug the HDD from your notebook and attach it to a PC to see if you can access it.

Would rather do it myself than trust a shop guy to do it for me...

yeah luckily the bottle didn't break ...the beer was good as always ...wouldn't mind one now ...i think i must go for a 2nd opinion

Thankfully the beer is still intact :)

If you aren't able to access the data by connecting it to another PC then you'll need some form of recovery. Seeing that it was physical damage there's a good chance the problem will get worse and the damage will spread when you power it on, so there's a risk.

If the data is valuable then book it in with us, we'll assess it and sort out you.
