Hi All

I need some advice regarding retrieving an old number. Long story short, I defaulted on a vodacom contract, number was deleted, I was handed over to a debt collection agency, the account was settled. Vodacom tells me that the number has been recycled and I cannot retreive that number. I've explore the prepaid sim swap option, but no dice...
What I need advice on specifically is Number swap - contract number change. If I take out a contract then I could possibly change the number to my old number. Vodacom contracts, vodashop and legal all tell me that the number is recycled. However if I dial the number, the voice says 'the number does not exist' which leads me to believe that the number is not in use.

Please help as I would like to have this number back, due to business reasons. Any help would be appreciated

Ps. My local vodashop are too useless and clueless to let me know if the number is still available

Call the customer care to check... I know at Vodaworld they showed me an old number of my sister in law had been recycled while she was out of the country for two years

So it is possible and my local Vodashop is a dud. Thanks for the response ahoudet.

They can check - not sure if the store itself can... That number had been taken by someone else so I don't know if they can give it back if not used

On store level we cant do this. When we activate a new contract and you dont have a prepaid number you want to convert, the system will allocated a random number from the pool. If you want to do a number change on this new contract (not available on Top Up / Flexi contracts) then the system will display a list of 15 numbers or so that the customer may choose from.

Thanks guys.... Ockie, is this a lost cause or is there some way of getting this number back?

Hey Ockster,

What happens to the rica info from the previous owner of the number? Is the link between the orginal owner of number completely deleted?

Thanx

Dont waste your time, rather move on. Vodacom isnt exactly accommodating with their customers. I recently signed up for a data contract and use the sim in my phone. I am constantly sent smses for a mr mkhize. I receive his texts from debt collectors, jet, and checkers hyper. I calmly asked a call centre agent to change my number free of charge but was told it isnt part of their protocol.

I made a noise on hellopeter and the number was eventually changed. My sister had the exact experience and eventually changed her number.

Conclusion

Vodacom doesnt give a toss and you should change your number, it is less stressful. You will just inherit the new owners spam.

Thanks again guy. Its the same as always with Vodacom... Surely, its not impossible, the number is not in use and I was the previous owner for that MSISDN... For nine years mind you. Sigh...guess its time to move on. If anyone still wishes to chime in, feel free.

Same issue here. Took our R15k, gave the run around, just to then be told it can't be retrieved

Good day Vodacom, please reycle to me my old Vodacom number. I don't use it for 7 months I was not well.

Hello, My 15yrs old number just got deleted this week pls assist.

I defaulted a Vodacom contract.

Or if I were to ask : is deleting numbers a better option to address defaulters?
Because I use this phone everyday (stranded).

I suppose one way is to call the new user and ask them to swap, possibly for a fee?

I had a former work colleague who had a number with the digits "786" in it and he said Muslim people used to call him offering to pay him for the number. He never agreed because he thought it may be good luck and he was not even Muslim.

I also lost my number...after being out of country...Vodacom will not help they do not even notify you of deleting the number they just implement. Shameless they don't even worry about the well being of their clients.
