Firstly, Microsoft South Africa doesn't have a Service Centre in South Africa, so they do swopouts.
I also found that the people at the store are clueless(if they haven't done it before) about what the procedure is on returning the XBOX.

Here's what you need to do:
Write down the serial number of the XBOX and keep in a safe place.
Return your Console with proof of purchase(Write your name and contact number at the back of the slip) where you purchased it. Tell them you have to phone Microsoft for a reference number and you'll get back to them. Phone Microsoft at 0800991550(Toll free) and speak to one of their consultants.Tell them that your store has told you to phone Microsoft to get a reference number for you faulty XBOX 360.
They'll probably ask you what's wrong, just explain to them what the problem is(2 red lights flashing etc.).
If for some reason they don't wan't to give you a reference number, just put down the phone and phone again. I found that each consultant has their own version of what should happen to your console.
Refuse a repair at all costs.

Once you have your reference number, phone the store and tell them to do the follwing:

They have to fax the follwing details to MI Digital(distributor of XBOX 360 in SA):

- Proof of purchase
- Serial number
- Microsoft Reference number
- Your name
- Store Address
- 2 contact numbers of staff at the store

The fax number is 0865236635
Their Number is 0119975026(You might want to phone first to prepare them)

The Store must then get a Autorisation number(So that they could be credited for the console) which should take about 5 minutes and then phone you to collect your console. This process should have taken an hour, but instead took me about a week. Don't forget to take back the proof of purchase and remember they should stamp it so that your warranty can be valid for another year.

Good luck! :)

Nearly correct, however phone the support center before leaving home to save extra time.

Then give the guy the console and reference number and tell them to phone MI Digital.

Done ;)

Oh and you are allowed to keep your hard drive

FCUKIN HELL... here is my version.. buy a shot gun.... and some shells.... take yoru xbox to where you bought it and tell them its broken and you want another one... of they give you another one, take it and leave. If they dont, tell them you have a special voucher that says you can trade your xbox... when they ask to see it, show them the shot gun....

It's really not that complicated. I promise you having the official "special voucher" ie the MS reference number will work a lot better on jaded South africa's (Who are probably packing more heat than you anyway ;) )

Here's how it worked for me..

Phone MS.
Speak to clueless call center person in India.
Get Ref number.
Walk into BT Games
Give Ref number and console
Get new Console and leave

Most important thing is to keep your receipt in a safe place. NB

Without it you have loads of crap to sort out especially with a MI Digital and CNA combo.Serial no's mean nothing to both these companies(talking from personal experience)

So NB keep your receipt safe and if you do lose it swap the console with a friend's receipt :D

Yeah, that could help, but I work close to the Musica where I bought it,
:-)
