So I hate the fact that I pay dearly for my gigs, and still get shaped into submission when trying to download anything non-HTTP.
I also like using DC++ to get hold of obscure TV programmes from international destinations. Last night was the final straw - my international was screwed when downloading in DC++ 0.674 - and I was about to make the fateful move to torrents.
One last google changed my mind. I downloaded and started using revconnect.
I'm glad I did - this program is the long awaited next step for DC.
The reason: it comes with the built-in ability to download pieces of the same file from multiple sources simultaneously. It then reassembles the pieces into the whole file - much like a torrent, except this is for the DC protocol.
I fired up revconnect - it looks exactly like DC++ 0.674 - and connected to a few of my favorite swedish hubs. Chose a file to download, and revconnect automatically found all alternative sources and began trying to download from all of them.
The result is that I'm getting full speed downloads - since I'm downloading from 5 sources simultaneously at an average of 6k each. Not bad for a 192k line, especially since with normal DC++ the same hubs were giving me only 6k on a single connection.

Ignore the stipulation that revconnect does not work on lines with speed under 1 meg - my 192k connection has worked fine with it all night.
