Reverse camera installation

Would that then mean that the camera is always on and running when the car is on?
Mine is aftermarket, so either the camera is always gonna be powered on via the acc or I'm gonna have to put a power button somewhere in the car.

Not sure if running the camera always on is gonna impact lifespan, though they are cheap and I have a spare.
I cannot confirm if the camera is always powered, but I can confirm that the radio display toggles to camera mode either by engaging into reverse, or by long pressing the camera button on the radio.

It was an after-market installation, Kenwood

Have similar with mine. Engaging reverse and selecting the reverse camera display option on the head unit act as a trigger but it always has power. Although not physically on it would seem.
Actually sounds a little silly to power it from the reverse lights.

I once had an aftermarket reverse camera fitted to my car's headunit which only activates when the car is put into reverse. Worked nicely until one day the camera just would not go off. Believe me, it is the most irritating thing when you are driving forward and your headunit screen constantly shows the rear view and cannot be shut off. Somehow it's just different than looking into the rear view mirror.
We eventually found it to be a faulty reverse switch on the gearbox which had to be replaced.
