Rian Malan on SA: "Slow-motion catastrophe"

In his day he could bend a Fender with the best of 'em, a consummate rock-blues-jazz lead guitarist who, had he grown up in a different place and time (other than Joburg in the late 60s and early 70s), could have been world famous. I've seldom heard anyone match him in early Black Sabbath, LedZep, Jethro Tull and even Hendrix lead.

Then the tortured reality of SA hit.
