Rib eye where from

Hi Guys,

it is been on my mind for a while now, to ask where can i get some nice prime rib eye steak. I have tried Seemans, Herti, Holstein, WW and still can not find some real nice rib eye. Or it does not have the nice marbles, or if it looks all right does not have the "beefy" taste that I'm looking for. Looks like rib eye is not that popular in SA and it is difficult to find. Please if some one knows a place (butchery) with some really good rib eye steaks to posted here. It is my favorite steak and I'm missing it.

Local butcher, I've had some decent ones from the likes of the spar deli butchery, p'n'p & checkers before.

The p'n'p by me does some really decent rib eye and porterhouse steaks that are good on the braai or in the pan.

There's a really good butcher in Randburg that should be able to sort you out, forgot the name though. Will find out

Woolworths sell pretty much the best one. Ive probably had more than 50 of those and never been disappointed
Overpriced these days though.

Some Spars haves decent ones.

Last one I had was from p'n'p and it was very good.

If bought from there.. look carefully, often it is stocked in 2 fridges, one is well matured and the other is not.

Thanks for all the replies. I was looking for something different then PnP and WW. Maybe there is really nothing better out there. Such a shame that i can not find a nice rib eye. Thanks again guys.

Yeah, you need to look for the darker coloured one

Try Grobbies Butchery on the Bluff, might as well get a couple kg's of 'kom-terug' wors as well as the stuff is amazing.

Yes aware of that. I'm sure whatever cross contamination they had was not intentional and sorted out. Their meat is excellent and they've been in the butchery game for 40 odd years i think.

I saw some at Checkers for around R110/kg IIRC.
