RICA Dilema

So I wanna port to Telkom Mobile and bought a sim. Tried to RICA it and apparently I can't use a proof of residence that's not in my name. Now I'm a varsity student and l'm currently living with my cousin who has a different surname. I tried to RICA using his rates bill since I live with him but they refused because our surnames are different. Can they do that? If that is true then it's a pretty unreasonable condition. Not everyone owns property. What if you're a tenant or for any reason you're unable to produce proof of res that's is in your name, but you actually do reside there?. Is it possible to get an affidavit or something to make them accept it? Please advise.

go to cops and do an affidavit

^This.
If you aren't aware, an affidavit is basically a written statement by you, stamped by the police.
They'll give you a form to fill in and you just write "I, xxx, ID number xxxxx, live at xxxxxxx on xxx street in xxx town, postal code xxxx" and they stamp it and you're good to go.

Been there, done that way too many times to count.

Unfortunately this is the only way forward. If your surnames corresponded then you wouldn't of had any problems to RICA.

Ask a relative to RICA on your behalf or go to Edgars/Edcon, cause the RICA agent/consultant will be liable if the details are incorrect.

The problem with asking someone to RICA for me comes when I end up having issues with the number or if I wanna do a sim swap, TM will tell me the account isn't mine or they can't help me. I've had this problem before with previous networks. That's why I want to register it in my name

if its a prepaid sim get it from Edgars,Jet or CNA. They rica without asking for your proof of residence they just ask where you live. You need your ID though

The university should be able to issue you a proof of address for FICA and RICA

But does Telkom Mobile not have a SMS method for porting like the otger networks... Surely that's the easiest way.

Nope. I guess its also the reason they don't get many people porting to them. They are the only network that does not have the option to SMS to port.
