Not planning on trying this, as I prefer doing things the legal way.

If you had to get a Sim card, I know you have to have some sort of proof of address, and ID number.

What's to stop somebody from doctoring somebody elses geunine bill statement, and then adding your own name to it, therefore making it look like a genuine document and proof of address?

For example, I live in NZ and we're looking at coming back to Cape Town in December for a short while. I have permission to use a lifelong friend of mine's DSTV on demand info, to watch certain shows.

I can also access their DSTV statements.

What's to stop somebody from doctoring like a DSTV statement, and adding another persons name. It will all look genuine, as I know of a few programs that will do that, and they're quite easy to come by.

Thanks

The possibility of being charged with fraud?

One can RICA legally by simply providing a letter from a local school, church or retail store. No need to commit fraud.

Instead you can pick up a SIm at the airport. All you need is a address of where you will be staying. Have a few guys who picked up SIM cards when they landed in SA.

By some SARS tax law a pdf invoice etc needs to be protected and must not be editable. But of course this protection is quite weak and easily broken.

Ain't those cards quite $$$ at the airport?

The problem is this - I have heard of lots of places that RICA you with no proof of address whatsoever. An ID and verbal info from you is good enough. What does RICA as a system help if people go around it?
