Richard Shim is a senior analyst for the PC Group at DisplaySearch. As an expert in the PC industry for more than 15 years, he provides detailed research and analysis of PC markets, including notebooks and tablet PCs. Richard studies consumer and commercial PC buying behavior worldwide and has extensive knowledge of PC client sub form factor and technology embedded in PCs. He is frequently quoted in the media, offering perspectives on PC-related new events. His insights have been used in the following publications: The Associated Press, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Investor's Business Daily, The New York Times, Reuters, Wall Street Journal, CNET News, PC Magazine and Computer Shopper.

Prior to joining DisplaySearch, Richard worked for research firm IDC, where he covered the PC market, tracking industry trends and forecasting impacts on worldwide desktop and notebook PC markets by commercial and consumer segments. He served as a liaison to ODM contacts, component suppliers, computing company representatives, and other business contacts to analyze current computing market dynamics. As a result, Richard provided clients with up-to-date market intelligence published in reports and surveys. He has also worked closely with a number of leading PC and PC-related companies, including AMD, Dell, Intel, HP, Lenovo, Panasonic, and Toshiba, offering strategic industry and product guidance for their PC-related businesses.

Education: Richard has a bachelor’s degree in biology and environmental studies from Bowdoin College in Maine.
