Right Timing for NokNok

Nothing worse than the call center and their "Yellow, how can we help" line... freaks me out. I think MTN should lay their own undersea cable just so they can have some techies live in a yellow submarine.

Just for interest sake. It looks like cell c struck a deal with mxit, something about free access or moola(mxit money).

Anyway will be interesting to see what happens because IM is becoming a big part of everyday life.

let's see chatting one 2 one with mXit is free and with noknok you have to pay? obviously there is only one clear choice. They can't touch Mxit

Lets see:

Has limited interoperability with other networks. [check]

Released at the same time as Vodacom's product, with nothing to differentiate it [check]

Has less features than the current market leader [check]

No guarantees about future pricing [check]

Competing against an entrenched system whose users have strong social incentives to stay put [check]

Bloatware code [check]

Limited handset base [check]

Conclusion?

Set sail for fail, MTN :)

Yip - but lets see both sides - that way you can make INFORMED dicisions and do not have to comment on sweeping statements...:D

1.Interoperability to Vodacom: Done and available
2. Commercially available a week prior to Vodacom

Things to differentiate:
- Filesharing
- MMS continuity
- Chatrooms

3. Phonebook integration
SMS continuity for free during promo

4. Do you really think that any operator is going to risk losing you as customer by charging you for this service later on...?

5. Why stay with the incumbent just because there is no alternative..? It's like saying I'm staying with Telkom because my mother use Telkom....

6. Bloatware - who cares....is an opinion...

7. Yes, for now but there is WAP extentions...so not really that limited...the handset list is going to be around 2million at end December - just for the handset clients..(30 popular handset models).

8. Conclusion: It's already a success...and with proper backing, I'd rather put my money on an operator that also controls the network then on a smaller player catering for kids who actually grow up at some stage...

Cheers

6. Bloatware - who cares....is an opinion...
MTN should care that Microsoft's .NET is considered to be bloatware, and that releasing an application that relies on .NET is not exactly cross-platform either.

1.Interoperability to Vodacom: Done and available
According to NokNok's website "Vodacom customers cannot receive multimedia messages or participate in chatrooms" - does that sound like interoperability?

Chatrooms are still only provided by MTN - several reasons - and as such only MTN subscribers can use it.

Sending multimedia messages over to another operator costs $$...If the service is to remain free, I'm sure both Vodacom and MTN will come up with an agreement on this.

The rest seems to be working great and I guess both operators will be making huge efforts to bring more functionality upgrades etc... to their subscribers...
