People from the Eastern Cape are migrating all over the country as are people in all the other provinces. For rural people it can be very difficult to earn an income so people migrate the cities in the hope of finding work. Plus, the EC is a poor and corrupt province, it lacks the level of industry found in the wealthier provinces, so obviously people move to where the money is. More people from the Eastern Cape have migrated to Gauteng than to the WC. More have migrated to Kwazulu Natal than to the WC. Cape Town has the highest murder rate in the country because of gangsterism in the Cape Flats, so yes, it's bad. Full of desperate people, bad drugs and murder. You can get angry and indignant at the looters and protesters but in the end they have nothing to lose. Literally, nothing to lose so what do they care. For some people even going to jail will be an improvement in their living standards.

Saw a bit about this on the news today. The organisers of this riot are planning to sue the police because some of their members got pushed around. Not beaten to a pulp as they deserve, merely pushed.
