How do I get rid of them?
Like downloaded movies dont have any of them, how can I rip a DVD without the annoying black bars being part of the movie?

I use Magic DVDripper

Try another ripper? there's tons of them out there

You said you love newsgroups :) so much - there should be a good number of rippers available to rip a DVD to an AVI/MKV/MOV in one go :).

Handbrake works well and is free.
If not get hold of one of the IMTOO products or
even AnyDVD from Slysoft, they have a ripper/region free
solution. Fengtao Soft also offers nice rippers.

There are guides to do this with freeware, AutoGK, AviSynth, VirtualDubMod
etc but they require you use command line parameters and 3-4 steps
in succession. It would be more economical in the long run to just
BUY (or keygen licence) one of the above products, then you can
also use their customer support forums/email addresses (if u buy anyway). :)

best is imtoo range of programs

should be available on most news servers

you can set the screen to full screen but then it looks stretched

AnyDVD (latest version) and CloneDVD. Thats what I use ;)

Unfortunately black bars is part of the widescreen standard. Be that 16:9 or 4:3. Making movies full screen involves stretching the picture. That results in pixellation.

Aren't you being overly picky?

When I Handbrake it I match the resolution to my screens aspect ratio so I crop everything to 688x384. No black bars and no stretching but you do miss extreme left/right.
