hi,

A friend recently purchased a 2nd hand laptop
The specs on the laptop read :

1.6ghz
80 gig hard drive
AMD 3400+ ....
512mb ram ddr 2

now here's what it say under properties :

700mhz
40gig hdd * 2
512mb ram
amd 3400+

hmmmm..i think he got ripped off ! is there anyway someone can change the processor to read differently that what it actually is ?

seems to me as if he has a P3 or something Not a amd 3400+

his laptop is extremely slow...he upgraded the ram to 2gigs but to no avail
...when i had a look at the specs it looked pretty decent to me...then i looked under properties and realised it wasnt the same ...

.......

Run CPU-Z and see what it says, laptops can underclock themselves to save power

:o excuse my ignorance....but how do i run CPU-Z..is it a programme i download and run or is it an application already on the laptop?

thanks

lol i know BUT when it says 80gig on the specs thinghy thats pasted on he laptop, iwas expecting 1 80gig hdd not 2 40gigs :) oh well .....

Its most probably 1x 80GB partitioned into 2x 40GB's. Quite a few laptops come like that(acer comes to mind).

I remember When I got my first AMD PC I almost had a heart attack when the bios boot up screen and MC properties said it was a 1.1Ghz and I bought a 3.2ghz CPU. I had to go into the BIOS and up the multiplier or something for it to run at 3.2Ghz... maybe it's the same story, have a look in the BIOS (mine had options of 100, 200 and 300 i think).
