Right, your first phone line huh?
Luckily I've been through this, and yes, it's shocking they don't tell you. The first month you pay for :
a) Installation
b) Rental
c) Rental a month in advance
So your first month's bill would be R404+(R329*2)+R85+R250(ISP)
Depends if you had to install a new phoneline as well. If you just upgraded your phoneline I think you should be around the figure above, however, if you have a new line, I won't be suprised if it hits 1800.
And no, they dont rip you off, they just convieniently (sp?) forget to tell you you pay a month in advance the first month.
However, I've made 2 applications for a new line and ADSL (cancelled both, I hate wireless technologies) and both times the lady at the other end made sure I knew that they will double charge me (line rental + line rental a month in advance) when it gets installed.
You have now learned, and trust me my friend... you're now more knowledgable than the rest of south africa...
a key thing to remember always buying ANY kind of service... IS ASK QUESTIONS... oh and it doesnt hurt to ask for discount either. I can shave off maybe 5 or 6 grand on a bill, depending on what I buy
