Funny enough I had 4mb/s for a while but each year they're having to drop my speeds lower and lower, bill still stays the same though. :o
 
Telkom has been very vague about the 10Mbps upgrades, hardly any solid info really. So maybe it will be the same for 384k and 512k, after the 10Mbps are done possibly.

Well, they have not made an official announcement yet - other than RPM's interview with their MD where she indicated that the ADSL speed upgrades would be done by mid-August.

In theory 6+ is the tests they did at the time of my installation were at all accurate accurate but as I said, the lines have degraded to the point that I get sync issues at around 3mbs.

My current speed is 4 mbps... and there is no reason why I should not be able to do 8 or 10 mbps... except that Telkom does not seem ready to upgrade my exchange. So I ask you again... why should those of us who COULD do the higher speeds pay the same as those guys who ARE doing the higher speeds? Only Telkom knows ..... Why should I have to pay the same as those guys... for half the speed?

Then they would've upgraded us as well, why wait?

They are just out to spite 384Kbps users and actually showing us if we (the majority) don't want to pay more, then we shouldn't expect any freebies from them.

They probably think that if they increase 4Mbps to 10Mbps, then 384Kbps users will say "WOW I want that!" and all 384Kbps users will upgrade :D

Because we are not officially paying for up-to 10Mbps yet. Although I agree :p

Garyvdh your enemy is not the humble 384 user, but the words 'up to'. Telkom at the moment only cares about those possible 20 000 10mb users. You are being treated like a redheaded orphan - no cookies for you. We understand your pain.

As the self proclaimed leader of the 384 LF (Liberation Front) I welcome you to our fold.
 
Damn, wish I could afford a 4/6mbps line. Oh well as they say, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. :p

Why dont they open up the ADSL lines, what i mean is, if you want fixed line internet you pay x amount for rent, no matter what speed your exchange can handle and you just sort the speed out with the ISP (whatever you can afford). Now we pay Telkom for some speed and we pay the ISP for some speed.

South Africa is a poor country generally speaking if telkom had any sense they should make ADSL more affordable so that more people can afford it.

Pinky or whats hers name, said one option might be to make 10meg the new 4 meg and create a cheaper 4meg product. I lie in wait.

Keeping us 384 users on 384 is a smart business decision. We are not getting a good internet experience being unable to stream many youtube videos, download movies in a sane amount of time or video chat. If they did upgrade 384---->1024 then do you know how many 4meg users would downgrade to 1024 to save money - I know I would.

So however much I hate to admit it - If I was the CEO of Hellkom I would also not upgrade 384 users - its a business decision.

Well their cash cows will be poached by future super dooper mobile data offerings from the cell phone companies. It is a crap business decision.

When the other mobile offerings come out they will respond and thereby maintain their cash cow... Meanwhile they are milking us for what they can...
