Just got a call from my housemate as I was leaving home to go on night shift.

ADSL is dead. Phone is dead.

As I was leaving, I noticed a construction crew digging near the junction box. I can only assume the worst for now and think that they've hit something they shouldn't have. And it's the second time this month it's happened to me.

With Telkom DAS team striking, looks like I'm in for a long wait.

Anyone else had similar issues? And how long did it take you to get it resolved. Who did you escalate to, etc?

Sounds like what happened to me earlier this year, metro water upgrades in my area hit a powerline feeding my house, when they reconnected it fried my HTPC, X-Box 360 and Home Server (they were the only appliance that are on 24/7)

Wow, that would have fried my brain with anger.

Why would your xbox be on 24/7 ?

Well, almost 2 weeks and daily (if not more frequentl) calls to Telkom later and I am still not up and running.

Last call, yesterday morning, the helpdesk told me my lines were stolen. I told them that if my lines were stolen, how was my modem sync'ing, albeit for no more than a few seconds to a minute before dropping the connection again. Surely something has to be there for data to transmit :) And I know it's transmitting because the PC at home with Teamviewer on actually gets on long enough to login and notify me while I am sitting here at work. But the handset is still dead and when the line syncs, it syncs at 640kbps downstream and 416 or 448kbps upstream.

If any Telkom rep out there has an answer for me, my reference number is 538CRK220610.

Pleasure man. Glad that I could be of assistance.
