Roaming BIS

Hello All

I am sitting in West Africa at the moment and when I left ZA i did not turn on roaming as its too expensive and i get supplied a company phone when im over here.

The other day I connected my BB to the company internet WIFI and suddenly the blackberry BIS dots appeared and I have BBM !!! Needless my wife and I are thrilled about it.

Can anyone tell me how this is happened even tho i have no cell network and do you think i will get billed??

I am not moaning just really suprised and curious

It will activate the "BIS" service for the WiFi connection - so no - as long as you are on the WiFi you should be fine

Yup, I'm at Sea in the middle of the Gulf of Aden. Ship's Wi-Fi connects me to BB wherever I am. No roaming charges. It's great.

Yes, it's one of the things that I love most about my Blackberry. I attend many overseas conferences and we get free Wifi-access, which means I am always in touch with my family on BBM without paying a cent.
