I've been using my Virgin Mobile sim in my datacard to roam on Vodacoms network for a while now. At first I got terrible speeds then all of a sudden I was able to use Vodacoms 3G and HSDPA network.

These last couple of days it looks like Vodacom doesn't want this to happen anymore. I'm getting terrible speeds again and constant disconnects.

If I try to use Virgin Mobiles own network for data it wont work at all.

Anyone else with this problem?

Hi Piesang,

Please contact me with your details so we can have this investigated.

Gerald.

Hey Piesang

V3G informed me a week or so ago that 3G access on Vodacom - via Virgin Mobile - was a loophole that is currently being closed on the network. He mentioned that we might still be able to do this in Cape Town but the impression I got was that this wouldn't be for long...

Sorry, not great news, I know.

Not good at all.

Well, what can we do about it.

How can you tell whether this is Vodacom logging you off or a natural occurence on their network - speeds & disconnects?

[delete me not thx censoring mods  ]

Abbreviation wars ftw! Thankfully this is not a 1337 forum.

As to the OP: I never get anything above 5KB/s on roaming. 9-15 without roaming. Must be something local.

I've tried a few times to roam on voda, but it always kicks back to virgin almost straight away.

I have no GPRS reception on Vodacom towers today - had to revert to Cell C towers and I must say, I'm impressed with the speed. :)

I've lost my VM GPRS connection at about 17h00 yesterday, and it was after 10h00 when i've decided to stop trying. This morning it was back again and up to now it's still OK.

:) :)

Am I just lucky or what? I also use vm gprs, but the speed aren't that bad. 3G will be nice, and even edge, but for now I'm fine, without disconnects.
