Robbers shot dead after cop chase

JOHANNESBURG – Authorities say three suspected supermarket robbers have been shot dead after a car chase through Johannesburg.

Police Captain Doniah Mothutsane says members of the flying squad spotted a suspicious Toyota Quantum in Westdene at around 8pm on Sunday night and gave chase.

Mothutsane says the robbers led police all the way to Braamfontein before crashing into another car.

“They started shooting at the police vehicle and returned fire. Three suspects were shot and one of them died on the scene. The other two suspects died on arrival at the hospital.”

She says officers seized firearms, money and goods, which were allegedly stolen from a Supermarket in Westdene.

Investigations continue.
