Makhado - A hitchhiker from Limpopo is believed to have been injected with a lethal substance then robbed while being given a lift in Makhado, police said on Thursday.
Christopher Makhumisane, 37, died following the incident on Wednesday night.
He got a lift in a white double cab Isuzu with four occupants, three men and a woman, from near a petrol station in Louis Trichardt.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said a manhunt had been launched for the four.
"The deceased was allegedly given a lift by four unknown suspects travelling in a white Isuzu double cab," he said.
It is alleged Makhumisane was given a lethal injection, robbed of his belongings and then dumped.
Makhumisane was taken to hospital and was able to talk before he died.
"We are appealing to community members to make use of public transport when travelling and avoid hitchhiking, especially at night," said Mojapelo.
Police have called on anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.
