Been having trouble on and off with my 4 mbps line now for more than a year; sometimes been down for weeks at a time, others just no bandwidth (< 512k) and then sometimes it's perfectly fine.

When I've been experiencing slow speeds I've tested with 2 different ISPs (MWeb / Axxess), different routers (Cisco / Billion), filters / no filters, bypassing the rest of my network / FW etc. with the same results. Line attenuation etc. always looks okay, little or no DSLAM congestion from what I can see and no CRC errors at the moment. At one point I had endless CRC errors but after replacing the nearest junction box (goes to 3 houses) and my local lead it was fine (for a while :P)

For the last 2 weeks I've been struggling again with inconsistent speeds (< 512k again most of the time);

Telkom keeps reporting the line as "testing error free" but clearly there's still a problem here.

Any other ideas here (other than driving over my DSLAM)?

Update;

Seems to be a local lead / DSLAM problem again (even though line figures are looking okay)

I want to chew off my wrists!!! Telkom keeps closing my faults but the problem's still the same. Seems like a synchronisation issue but impossible to get a %#$@! technician out to actually demonstrate the problem...

Finally received feedback from a "Dtac specialist" that my ISP is throttling me. Sigh... I whish these people could READ! When I'm experiencing these issues I can switch between ISP's but it makes no difference.

Still sitting with this issue... Found a another chap with the same problem on a 011 791 number. Anyone else here on 791?

I am on 011 791, but I have issues due to cybersmart.

Have you tested with another ISP? I have these issues irrespective of whether I use MWeb / Axxess (so does the other chap)

Tx

I really wish I could test another isp for you, but at the moment cybersmart restricts me from doing so. They claim that if I use another ISP, I am not a loyal customer, wish they even knew what the... meaning of loyalty is. Which means they will make my line close to unusable.

Sorry for the late reply, I completely forgot about this thread.

Problem solved! I moved to Neotel Wimax (5 Mbps)
