Robindale - Randburg - ADSL congestion

I'm in Robindale - Randburg. Apparently I tie-into the Linden Exchange and I am about 6km away (phone cable length distance that is) from the Linden Exchange.

Can only get a 2 mbs line - doesn't sync at higher speeds. Most afternoons - 5pm to 7pm - line speed drops from 1.68mbs (max I've ever had on the line) to about 0.4mbs - sometimes get disconnects. I have no doubt it is congestion on the Linden exchange.

Telkom technician told me no plans of boosting line speed via a new exchange (or sub-exchange?) that he has heard of.

Is this poor performance a new thing, or did you only recently get that line? I'm also in Robindale and I've had a perfectly happy 4Mb line which would sync at around 3.5Mb but then be stable like that for the last three years, and just suddenly in the last month I'm experiencing the exact same thing as you. This line is basically unusable. I purchased a new modem to see if it was my modems fault, but the new modem does the exact same thing

I have had the same BS now for 2 weeks,

My line has gone down to a 1 meg line, excuses and lies

Telkom has series issues with the Linden exchange and is cannot support their customers

We have also had terrible performance with ADSL in Robindale. We have been using LTE.
Any one doing fiber in this area?

I've seen some fibre being laid in Malibongwe and Rabie, but not much else. With our ADSL we connect to the Linden exchange and the line syncs at 2Mbps. Telkom LTE isn't too bad, but since I use about 150-200 GB a month, LTE isn't really a viable option.

About 3 months ago I received a robocall from Telkom telling me they are busy upgrading our exchange, but from then on nothing. It seems Robindale is destined to stay on 2Mbps ADSL forever.

Just chiming in on the conversation. I'm also in the Robindale area, and my line's been really bad for 2-3 weeks now. Used to be perfectly happy at 4mbps, but now I've got constant disconnects, slowdowns, you name it.

This issue has been prevalent in the areas near Cresta for 5 years now.
The last upgrade was from 1mb to 4mb lines, yet the truth of the matter was the Cresta and surrounding areas get usually 2mb speeds at best.

The claimed 10mb speeds are a misleading false advertising myth from Telkom.
People install the higher speed lines to only realise a few months later they are not getting the full speeds and sadly no refunds are given.
