From what I've gathered, you connect to servers hosted in either the US, EU or other regions. Haven't seen any mention of SA servers yet, so I'm assuming I'll be playing with a 200ping on EU servers.

For those who have played it, how playable is the game with a +-200 ping? Does the delay come in the form of the ball teleporting, or is your vehicle sluggish/non-responsive?

It's free.

Download and see for yourself.

There aren't SA servers for anything.

Well, for FPS games 220 Ping is perfectly acceptable, but for a game like that it could be very bad.

Free with PS Plus - I'm referring to the PC version. Should have mentioned that in the thread title.

Edit: Found a similar question from an SA player on reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeague/comments/3aat7h/how_is_the_lag/).

Like a couple of you have mentioned, I guess it comes down to personal preference. 200 seems playable (although there might be complaints from players on the other team if it's too warpy).

roflmao try playing quake, CS or unreal at anything above 80ms and reevaluate this statement.

50/50

Im currently getting 240-256 up to 300 ping on EU servers & 400-600+ everywhere else, when it goes above 300 its a complete killer, but otherwise the 200 range not so bad, however some eu servers do actually run smoothly & somewhat playable with an occasional quick skip while others are completely unplayable (car warping around the field, ball warping and plays not registering) with constant and heavy lag so its kinda like a lucky packet but a worthwhile game indeed, s*itloads of fun

actually hard to believe they dont have servers for africa, how hard could that be to arrange? simple email to mweb

You also reminded me to follow-up on my own question:

I've put a huge number of hours into the game and have had a very similar experience to yours. My EU ping tends to be +-200 (4mb adsl, IS ISP), and +-260 to US East servers. Taking into consideration the fact that it's a fast-paced game and ball physics are involved, they did a fantastic job with the lag compensation/correction.

They have mentioned that they're adding more territories in the near future, but I'm not sure what the requirements/pre-requisites are. Couldn't hurt to send mweb a mail, even if it's a one in a million shot.

And for those still thinking about getting the game: DO IT. It's a blast.

Got the plat, the game is 100% playable with 200ms ping.I have a 2mb business line, just make sure all downloads/torrents are off on your pc.When it starts to get to 350 ping it starts to get unplayable.

Okay, so here's the deal from someone who plays the game semi-competitively (just hit bronze in ranked 3v3).

It's playable, HOWEVER, even at 180-200 MS, you'll notice tiny issues with the ball pathing due to the netcode.

Like, for instance, (and this is something my buddies and I have all noticed), the ball will occasionally shift along its expected path (not massively, but a tiny bit). I am guessing this is something to do with how some of the ball physics are handled client side and then updated with server side information.

Also, you'll get some near-misses for "close" shots (shots which you might have just scraped if you had lower ping, but missed due to latency issues) where you'll swear you hit it, but miss because it feels like the ball went through you. Again, this is only for a small percentage of shots overall.

Another thing is how the ball will appear to be travelling one direction, another player will bump it, and then you'll see the netcode compensating for the client side prediction. This is particularly true for airborne balls.

Game is still more than playable, and a ton of fun (especially with friends), but if you are insanely competitive (like I can be) this issues will undoubtedly be noticeable if you start to play a lot.

Thanks for that reply and the rest of the guys on this thread as well!. I'm also a rather competitive gamer. But you guys sold me on it.

It's a super addictive game, especially if you're the competitive type, so you should have a lot of fun.

I play on the EU servers and my ping is usually below 200 around the 140/150 mark. I tend to get a better ping than in League of Legends (168 if everything is well). I've occasionally experienced a stuttering in the music and movement in the car, but somehow that doesn't seem to affect play on the ball e.g. if it stutters/lags but I rocket boost to the other side of the field I still move fast, bump into cars etc. and when I get there and do a side dodge against the ball towards the goal it makes contact and I get the goal.

Haven't had any serious issues yet and the game seems to try to match you to players with similar pings (but I can't confirm this and it doesn't always happen). A must play though!
