Rodeo

Going to a real Rodeo on Saturday. It is being hosted by a friend of a friend.

Hoping for a good turnout so that they ride till late into the afternoon or early evening which will allow me a good time frame to get some shots.

Have any of you guys shot a rodeo before?

Any pointers or advice?

I am taking the 70-200mm F2.8 to shoot everything.

It was a bit of a challenge but still great fun.

I specifically struggled with getting the exposure of both the rider and the bull correct. Some bulls were darker and some were lighter. The same with the rider and his clothing.

I planned on attending and accreditation was arranged but unfortunately a family crisis stopped me from coming down this weekend.

I assume you are not going to miss it for anything in the world?

Sorry to hear you're not going to make it - it's going to be insane. I almost wish I wasn't working at the event and could just sit in the stands and enjoy it!

Bumped into a neighbour today who mentioned that one of the newspapers had picked up one of my pics for their back page during the sevens. Being the egotist I am I tracked down a copy and low and behold there it was, one of the worst (technically speaking) pictures I took during the event splashed over half the page.

Haha. I had a similar experience earlier in the season.

We had one of our shots published in a Sunday newspaper a while back (only because we were the only photographers at the event).

From all the shots, the journalist wanted a specific shot which I thought was terrible compared to the others. But he insisted on that one even after I suggested another shot.
