I recently acquired this streaming stick but when I attempted to download the mobile app for Android from the Play Store, I got the message "device not available for your country". Any idea where I might download the app from?

Try someplace like APKmirror and side load it.

I downloaded it from apk4fun. Just make sure you get Roku 4.2.8.3.

I'm quite disappointed with the Roku Streaming Stick+. Very limited side loading options and you have to pay for basic extras that are free with Android. Plus, no IPTV support. I've switched to a Fire TV.

Thanks. I am pretty sure that your replies will get me sorted. I'll side load it.

Have only been watching SA Netflix on my MacBook Air, but recently got a flatscreen TV, and plugging computer in with HDMI. Now I want to purchase a roku or fire TV stick from USA and then use here in SA (mainly to watch Netflix or other streaming stuff, we don't actually care about DSTV much less actual TV), but have been worried I won't be able to use it here (VPN Issues). I've got Express VPN, but sometimes when I try to use with Netflix it 'knows' and gives me an error message (lately I've taken to just watching SA Netflix for this reason, though I just checked now, and it actually is working with USA Netflix - hoorah!). So the question is, if I'm using Roku or a Fire stick, how do I use VPN with them (as they'd be connected to wifi -- we have LTE wifi router/modem)? Don't understand how that will work (as won't have laptop in-between to switch VPN on)... Anyone able to help? Thanks so much.

I believe there is a Express VPN app on Amazon TV stick and Android.

Geewiz has the new Amazon TV stick. Want to get myself one.

Roku and a smart dns service like Getflix/SmartDNS works just fine. Then you just need to configure the router and you're good to go.

I don’t know what you watch, but as a UK catch up person and for value for money, the NowTV stick you get from the UK now supports Netlflix and is far snappier and imo easier to use than Fire TV stick. Of which incidentally, I have the old and the new and they are pretty much identical user wise. The Alexa part is just gimmicky rubbish.

NowTV stick is a modified Roku and a lot cheaper too, from ÂŁ15 (R270) if you can get it sent over to you somehow.

When I changed the old NowTV box for the new stick at home, the difference in speed was remarkable. It went from clunky to smooth and my wife loves me again :p

I've got a NowTV box, for UK telly as well, and while it's really good for the price I prefer the generic Roku. You can get an Express from Amazon for $25 and they will ship to SA.

Happy to hear they let you load Netflix, haven't got round to loading it yet. Can you load Plex now as well?

Haven’t actually tried. I’m not such a big plex user but I’d imagine it’s the same deal as before where you can sideload one app. I’ll check it out when I’m home next month. Only got a fire stick with me for travel just now.

Edit: I should say Bwana, the difference between the now box and the stick is night and day. Try and grab one on your travels :)

Well, just watched a YouTube video, about the NowTV, TV stick, and it was not fast at all.

Seeing as it is not that expensive, I will see if I can get one to find its way here, might have to have a friend courier it, if no one is traveling back here, soon tho.

Interesting. In my experience it blows the socks off of the box, of which I have had 2. I used it in the UK and in SA and like I said, my wife couldn’t believe the difference in speed. It’s really night and day.

Possibly the box was really atrocious, but will check a few more YouTube vids, might have been, it took longer to do things as guy was setting stick up ...

Okay watched a few more videos, and NowTV stick, performs better in those, so yeah, appears to be better than initially thought it to be.

The Roku is only about $3 more these days and works just fine.

A RPi is cheaper ...

Ill say yes and no because you can get say an old i5 lga1156 desktop with more oomph under the hood for a about the same price but entirely depends on your needs. just fyi i have got 3 roku's and a Now Tv box using smatdnsproxy to unlock all that goodness

Nice, thing with a RPi is it use way, way, less electricity for 24/7 connected box, that must just download, if you want to do other things, well, then the it you mention is better. :)
