Roku suddenly won't connect to network

I've had a Roku Streaming stick for a while now - almost a year.
Its the handiest little device ever - so small that its practically invisible behind the television. And the remote makes it much more convenient than the Chromecast.

Last night while watching something on Plex the remote suddenly stopped working, and a few minutes later the streaming stopped. I rebooted the Roku, checked the batteries on the remote (That has happened before.) No luck.

The Roku started up, but showed the no-connection message at the top. Eventually I rebooted it again and then swapped out the remote batteries - pressing the pairing button for 5 seconds during the Roku bootup.
The remote finally paired to the Stick, but the signal was very 'laggy'. And when I tried to get the Roku to see the network - no luck.

I did reboot my router - in case that was part of the issue, but I've had the current setup for over a year now. Nothing has changed in it at all.

Anyone had this type of issue with their Roku device?
 
I had a similar issue, mine was a result of me changing the wireless channel from Auto, to a specific channel, Roku, didn't connect to the wifi then, changed it back to Auto, and everything working again.
 
Power surge / lightning damage? Often causes ethernet devices to degrade / work erratically and then finally stop completely.

TV's with USB generally have built-in surge protection for power spikes like that. I know the Samsung does.

Try a hard-reset. Hope it works

The TV is a old model without USB. The Roku is powered though a charger. :wtf: I never thought of that.
My router and modem are on a UPS with AVR, you might be on to something.

On the plus side - Takealot has them on special for R750 and they have stock in Jozi.
 
Just a follow up for any poor future soul googling this and finding my post.

I unplugged the Roku and left it off for a few days. Removed the batteries from the remote.
Ran checks on my entire network, did a hard reboot of my router, ADSL Modem, checked all the settings.

No hurry - The Chromecast ran fine - so the minions could still get their daily fix of Max Steel, etc.

On Sunday I had some free time, so I plugged the Roku back in, put new Energizer Batteries in the remote, and while the Roku was booting up - pushed the pair button in the battery compartment for 5 seconds.
The activity light started flashing, so I went to get some coffee.
Walked back in and the Roku home screen was showing, no connection errors. The remote was responding, so I checked the network status, everything fine.

Funny thing - while in the Setting screen I also checked the firmware, and noticed that there had been a update the day before the little stick started acting all wonky.
Due to my setup the Roku is powered up the whole time. I'm going to get in the habit of rebooting it every few weeks. Just in case.

Much the same. My streaming stick+ started to drop the wifi, but that was easily corrected initially, by going through the reconnection procedure. Last time it happened, I can no longer see my wifi to reconnect. although I can see all my neighbours, 3 to 7 networks around me. The Roku is about 1m from my router. My smart tv, laptop, ipad and phones all see the wifi networks and work fine. When I access the secret wireless page, it shows me 0 signal strength on my network, which is BS. Factory support is useless.

Its alive!
I added a second access point to my home network and moved the mobile devices over to it. All the fixed assets - chromecast, roku, wifi speakers, printers - are on the original one. No issues since.
