Has anyone here ever had roly poly pudding? Is it nice or ?

Reason I am asking is, we are eating with friends over the weekend and they asked if I would mind bringing roly poly pudding....

Very nice but sweet for someone like me that prefers sour things. Has to be served with hot custard.

My mom has an excellent recipe, have not had it in years.

Its normal roly poly but with a brandy mix usually

roly poly being rolled up short cake with jam inside

Is this that flat cake which you spread with jam and cream then roll it up? Isn't another name a Swiss Roll?

Roly Poly is a desert of shortcake and jam in the middle with a sweet apricot sauce basted over it.

A Swiss roll is just a normal layer of cake rolled up with jam in between.

Dough, jam and sugar.....too sweet for me.

There's no added sugar to the rolly poly, only the jam, which should be spread thinly and evenly. The pudding is basically THAT, sliced up in a 10cm deep oven proof glass bowl thing, with liquor based syrup (not sweet) usually covered in custard (which *COULD* be sweet but isn't if combined with the jam/liquor)
