Hello, this thread sort of builds on this one:
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/666959-Custom-Android-or-Alternative-OS

Basically I rooted the Prestigio multi pad 4 quantum 7.85" (PMC5785C_QUAD)

Now I need assistance on how to load a different ROM, since I thought this is probably the next step?

Then on a different note, I have the Gobii rooted and running Rom Manager v5.5.3.7 and the ROM is ClockworkMod, now my question is what exactly is the ROM and what can I do with it?

(very noob to this. I'm sorry)

The ROM is the "edited" or altered version of the original Operating system - which in most of my experiences are just too buggy to use long term. The problem is that most of these "cooked" roms were not intended for the specific device it gets loaded onto and causes issues

I had a Xperia that came with windows mobile 6.1 and flashed an Android OS onto it - it looked hell of a nice on the phone but had camera issues, keyboard layout was different, Battery used to get VERY hot, random reboots and call drops, bluetooth no longer worked etc etc the list goes on....

Not to mention the fact that reflashing the stock Rom did not even return the phone to what it was, it was never the same again and ended up scrapping it.

Mmmm, that makes sense.

So do you suggest I just stick to my tablet's normal "stock" rom and keep it rooted ?

( what is my goal, well I just want something a bit better performing, prestigio's software is k@k.)

I know tell me about it - I got my GF a Prestigio Multipad and was so embarassed after a week of using it - the thing is terribly slow to work with and using an older Android :( the fact of the matter is it will never get "faster" as they are entry level devices.....unfortunately. I used the official firmware updates from Prestigio and to be honest no real improvement there.
I would rather spend the extra and get a Samsung tablet (I am not a fan of Ipads)

Any suggestions for Apps? All I want is a sleek look ( Simplistic ) then I have gmail and normal mail and then i will install one or two Stock Trading related apps.

So any idea of a launcher that would be better than the "Stock" one.

Rom Manager v5.5.3.7 and the ROM is ClockworkMod
Clockworkmod is not a rom but a custom recovey like TWRP (TeamWin Recovery Project). I don't see any roms for that tab. Not a well known tab so you'll have to do some digging on Google.

Obviously going from Windows Mobile to Android will be buggy except if it's a HTC HD2 (it can run 15 OSses).

My phone officially stopped at 4.1.2 and I'm running Lollipop. It's much better than TW ever hope to be.

Clockworkmod replaces the default recovery Android 3a I think. You use it to flash new roms. Rom manager is just an app to automate things like automatically update CWM and your rom. To access CWM or stock android recovery press power, home, and volume up (on Samsung). It differs from manufacturer to manufacturer. Google is your friend there...

Shiat, Okey then I really am noob hahaha sorry I was under the impression that clock was my custom rom.

Okey so what exactly is Clockworkmod ?

What is a good light weight launcher you guys would recommend ?

It used to be Read Only Memory, until all you fancy folks messed it up. Now it is EEPROM.
Electrically Erasable Programable Read Only Memory.

It's the BIOS for your phone/device. Like when you press Del/F10/F2 on a computer during boot.

I opted for Apus.

Good or bad?
Apus feel very cagey.
I use Apex free version that have swipe up (Whatsapp in my case) and swipe down (notifications, me) gestures. Even the bottom static four icons can be scrollable for +-5 screens. Same as Nova, but more features for free.
