Hi there,

Typically between 7 and 9pm at night, there is almost no chance of getting a workable data connection. Signal strength is fair to good (I normally either pick up the Hillfox or Weltevreden Park (Primary School - I think) towers.

However, stats on the mdma software show that I am sending data, but receiving little to no response, with data trickling through.

I have spoken to a collegue of mine who lives in Randburg, and he experiences exactly the same problem on the same days that I have issues.

Last night the problem was there again. I initially pased this off due to the power issue in the area, but I always had a signal and still had the issue after power was restored. Furthermore, my Randburg colleague (with no power failure issues) again indicated that he also had a problem last night.

Is there a capacity issue on the MTN data network? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi
I am located around those areas mentioned. I never have any issues irrespective of the time of day/night...

Hi guys,

I'm connecting on 3G preferred.

Any ideas what I can do to troubleshoot this. I have a Huawei E620 card. I have previously thought it there was something wrong with my PC. The card has been reset, safely removed, or drivers reinstalled, machine rebooted, but all to no avail. Yet I use exactly the same setup at different hours, and it works flawlessly (like right now).

Thanks

interesting...

try using the APN internet.

settings
connections
new
profile name: MTN INTERNET
then go to APN
select static
type in: internet (lowercase letters)
save
and try to connect with that...

I have a similar problem when using my USB Data Card. I have tried the APN internet, but no joy, still the same slow response. However, when using my Tytn II as my data connection, it flies along. The only difference in settings was a proxy server specified on the phone. I tried this on the PC, and while responses were better, they still did not come close to the speeds I am getting with the Tytn. The firmware on the data card is the latest 7.2Mbps (which I see has since been removed from the website) Is there a problem with this firmware??

edit * sorry, I forgot to mention I'm in the Fourways area.

The drivers will be up soon, they needed to be ammended :-)
Regards

the dr says it's being amended...

Just to state what is happening, going from the main MTN thread, into this thread, took just over 6 minutes to load, and then it still timed out on most of the ads and little extras on the site. When using my Tytn it took just a few seconds. I've done this over and over, and always the same result. Phone is quick, Data Card is a dead donkey. What is going on???

Hi Unspokenchaos,

Interestingly enough, I tried connecting on EDGE only last night when I couldn't connect once again on 3G preferred (around 6:45pm this time). I connected first time on Edge. I was using a different machine but the same data card.

I'm connecting to the myMTN APN. I'll try the Internet APN tonight as suggested and update this thread accordingly (hopefully between 7-9) ;)

Thanks for your help.

Hi guys,

Good news! Using the internet APN seems to have done the trick. Thanks a stack Unspokenchaos!

BTW: What gives with the myMTN APN vs the internet APN?
