Can anyone recommend a good autotrimmer in the Cape Town Northern Suburbs? My car's roof lining needs to be replaced. Nothing makes a car look tacky as quick as a sagging roof lining :o

I once got a quote to replace a roof lining for a Fiat i owned. Was in the region of R3K. Went to a breakers yard and spent under R1K for a almost new one from a wreck.

If you are willing to drive out all the way to Stellenbosch the Supreme Upholstery does a great job at a very good price.

Bump....

My S40's lining is sagging at the back and so I need to get it replaced. Went to McCarthy's Auto Trimmers but they couldn't match the material and I didn't like the alternative they had to offer.

Original lining behind a patch of the closest match they had (not my fingers :D ):

I was going to take my S40 to Raffles Auto Trimmers in Kraaifontein, but then I totalled the car :o They quoted me about R1k

Eish, sorry to hear that. Hopefully you weren't too badly injured? Volvo safety live up to its name?

Did you get a chance to see what material they were quoting for? If so, was it the same or similar to the original material?

No, it was a low speed accident, hit a lamppost at about 30km/h :o

I recall saying that it was not exactly the same, but similar. There is an issue with the S40's lining and the way it's attached to the roof. There's a layer of sponge in between, that is was deteriorates, causing it to sag. It also makes it impossible to glue your existing lining back. I haven't had a chance to go look, though.

Same thing happened on my Voyager - Little Karoo sun melted the factory glue. Original also has a thin sponge layer to you can't reglue. A local trimmer sourced new material with a 90% match and it's good as new, so it can be done.
