rooting my HTC desire

so i have finally decided to root my phone since it is old and long out of warranty.

I have read up on the procedure, especially using the revolutionary method.

I have started the process, i have so far S-OFF'd the phone, next step is installing a custom recovery and then the rooting process.

I am however stuck at installing the custom recovery using the Hboot method.
here's the problem. i have to type (in MS-DOS) "fastboot flash recover c:\my recovery file name" however i don't seem to get this right as i keep getting errors.

It seems my path is not recognized although i put the correct path and file name in the command.

If anyone can help, it will be appreciated. and yeah i should have rooted my phone long ago.

You'll need to change directory to the correct directory first.

e.g. cd /tools

Wow - I lasted two weeks with a stock ROM.

Rooted shortly after that

Unrooted when it had issues so I could take it back though :/

I managed to get it sorted, the recovery was named "recover-RA_2.0.1.img" but when i ran dir in DOS i picked up the name ended in .img.img so i put that in the path name and ir worked....i will be changing ROM tonight. Any suggestions?

I ran cyanogenmod 7 on my htc desire; breathed new life into it. As far as I know cm 10 is not supported; however, with KitKat supporting 512mb ram devices, you may be able to go to cm 11 when it eventually comes out.

For now though, I would suggest cyanogenmod 7 (if that is the highest you can go)
