Rooting

Rooting unlocks your system files and allows you to do modifications (also voids your warranty)
Rooting allows you to try out independent ROM's, Kernels and Loaders
Rooting probably wont damage your phone but leaves it open for you to damage it yourself
Do a google search including you phone model and O/S
I have been rooting my old Galaxy S for some time and changing ROM's, currently running on Slim Bean (Jelly Bean MOD)

You should add that you can unroot it just as easily. Except of course if you can't get into debug mode.

I attempted to root my android 858 with ONECLICKROOT but it asked for AB files or something so I downloaded from a link the site gave me BUT do I extract those files to a folder on my pc, is my question as this is the first time I am attempting this.
