Should he be yellow carded for time wasting when he wipes down the ball and wastes 30 seconds each time he takes a throw? Goalies are yellow carded for not taking their kicks in time, and players are yellow carded for wasting time on a corner. Would it not be fair if he is booked, or is he being proactive by drying the ball?

I think the difference is that Delap is not purposely wasting time. They are on the attack and it's not in his interests to waste time.

But it's clear in the rules. You get given a yellow card if you purposely waste time as in having an intention to waste time for the benefit of your team. This is up to the Ref if he feels a player is deliberately wasting time. In my opinion, Delap is not deliberately wasting time.

But he is deliberately wasting time, he's intentionally stopping the flow of the game


So now all teams can stop and hunt for a towel to dry off the ball when they're leading in fergie time?

I wonder what rules say about using a towel to dry the ball? If the ball boys hand him towels, cant they keep the spare ball dry and waiting on either end?? Will just save time. The refs never end up adding anywhere near as much time as he wastes...

never less that 20 seconds from the time the ball goes out till the time he throws it... time it next time u watch stoke at home...

I said never less than... check it, even takes him up to a minute to get that ball out. Commentator counted it one of the games this season.

Not with the intention of wasting time. His intention is to dry the ball to get a good grip on the ball for the intention of trying to set up a goal. There is a clear difference.
