Rotate Tyres or New?

That math is confusing me. I need google.

Add to that a tyre that already starts wearing will wear down much faster as it reaches part the point of compound integrity.

Even if you wanted to do it your way the tyre shop would recommend you put the new tyres on the back and put the already slightly used ones from the rear forward.

It’s not a perfect science and different compounds will have different results.

There is also something to be said for Ride quality as tyres don’t wear uniformly which is why you rotate them as well.

You might find your rear tyres are eating away along the inside of the tyre if not rotated due to toe/camber.

Then you’ll get a surprise long before you thought necessary that the rears need to be replaced because the inside tread is gone, even though the outside is brand new.

Not applicable for all cars, but does happen.

Best is to just follow the book.

Well that I believe is mostly because BMW run different sizes front and rear.

Or possibly related to run flats somehow.

It does say citation needed, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Could relate to specific models with specific setup that has a 50/50 weight distribution or particular suspension configuration.

Or that they just want more money.

Think you're onto something with the tire sizes. My rears are 10mm wider than the fronts.
