Guys, im having problems with my Netgear DG834G. It works great, except for my big problem. The router is setup in the kitchen(coz its the center of the house, at the phone line) and its connected to a surge protector. Now in the kitchen we have florescent lights, when i switch the florescent lights on, BAM the router resets itself, it disconnects, all connections lost. Then is comes back on in a few seconds and connects again.. Now, we also have florescent lights in the garage on the groud floor and in the office on the ground floor, and 1 small florescent light on the upper floor in my parents room. If you switch on ANY florescent light in the house, no matter where it is, the router resets.

This is starting to make me go crazy...
I have moved the router to another room with an extention on the phone box and to another power plug, and it still resets..

There isnt realy anything else i can do.. Now i have started to wonder if the florescent lights either some how emits a EMI that can trigger the reset or if it could some how influence the power itself in the house.. I DONT KNOW..

Have anyone ever seen this? Does someone know of something that can couse this to happen..

I have gone so far as to put the router on a UPS and put 3 layers of tin-foil around it as a shield, but still the same.. HAHAHA (the things we do when drived crazy)

Can someone plz give me an idea.. Do i have to call the electrician?

All helpfull inputs would be accepted, even if they dont work..

thanx...

Good grief.
Well the UPS test should prove if it's the power, or the tube-transmitted stuff.
do the UPS test again, and this time, do not plug the UPS in, run it on it's battery only, that will prove if it's your power supply or the florescent lights.

Wierd and wonderful world of modern technology.

Also, if you listern to the telephone handset, and then switch a florescent light on/off, do you hear a crackle or some kind of sound? Maybee the telephone cable is too near an elec cable.

The tinfoil *should* stop EMI...so it is likely that it is coming via power cable or telephone cable. My guess is telephone cable.

Have you tried it without the surge protector ? AFAIK, surge protectors shorts the current to ground when it detects a power surge. It might see the surge caused by your flourecents and be disconnecting the power, just long enough for your modem to lose sync. Your UPS should sort out that problem though.

I know EMI from flourecents affect devices such as TV remote controls, but it should not be powerfull enough to penetrate your modem or telephone cable.

This might sound stupid but maybe you could listen on your phone line when you switch the lights to confirm the line is clean.
